A Comparison of Pericles' Speech and that of Martin Luther King Junior Essay
A Comparison of Pericles' Speech and that of Martin Luther King Junior - Essay Example It is obvious from the investigation that the discourse made by Pericles at a burial service in 431 BC is perhaps the best talks that have ever been made in mankind's history. During this time, long talks were explicitly intended to empower warriors who were heading off to the war zone. The addresses could likewise be utilized to energize families deserted when their children, spouses or fathers did battle. Among the Greeks, there were internment services where discourse would be made to value the expired for their commitments society. Periclesââ¬â¢s discourse was one of them. The two talks look at intently regarding the degree of feeling they raise. Pericles began his discourse in an easygoing way by educating the social event about the significance regarding discourse, just as how it appeared. Nonetheless, he proceeded to clarify that the function was set up by their predecessors. Like the discourse made by Martin Luther King, Pericles recognized the pretended by progenitors in pondering of Greece. ââ¬Å"I will start with our precursors â⬠¦they stayed in the nation without breakâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ . This area evoked the past deeds of the past ages that Pericles accepted ought to be imitated by the present age. This is fundamentally the same as what Martin Luther utilized in his discourse. He stated, ââ¬Å"When the modelers of this countryâ⬠¦ they were marking a promissory note to which each American was to fall heirâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ . This methodology of conveying discourse has demonstrated to exceptionally successful most definitely. The equivalent ought to apply in the present American culture. The two talks share a lot in sentence structure. Pericles stated: ââ¬Å"And yet on the off chance that with propensities not of work yet of straightforwardness, and fortitude not of craftsmanship yet of nature, we are as yet ready to experience dangerâ⬠¦ Yet, obviously, the practitioner of the kindness is the firmer companion of the twoâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ (Rusten 45) This sentence structure contrasts intently and that utilized in the discourse ââ¬Å"I Have a Dream.â⬠Martin Luther stated, ââ¬Å"â⬠¦ realizing that by one way or another this circumstance can and will changeâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ (Echols 14). Leadership Is Commonly Defined - Free Essay Example
Leadership is commonly defined as somebody who inspires people, rather it be strong non-verbal communication or standing up for someone in their team. Leaders are important because without a leader youd be lost or misguided. With a leader youll have somebody to show you what to do and how to do it. Ralph and Jack are very different in their approach to leadership. Jack is impatient, strict, and harsh. Ralph on the other hand, is cooperative, patient, and less-harsh. Both leaders should be, in my opinion, strict which they both are but on varying levels. Ralph is the better leader of the two. Ralph took control of the situation on page 67, where they were unable to start a fire. The children on the island know that they need fire, but are unsure how to start one. Ralph has the idea of using Piggys glasses to ignite some flammable materials. Ralph is also very confident in his leadership and is sure of his ideas or orders. Ralph is fair as-well, he came up with the idea of using a conch shell for speeches. The conch rule is simple yet effective, whoever holds the conch is able to speak. Those who arent holding the conch dont speak. Ralph is outgoing and friendly, such as when he stood by Piggy instead of letting Piggy stand alone. He is able to recognize Piggy as being less-than able than the others. Ralph is also smart and responsible by giving Piggy his glasses back, when he could have kept them and started as many fires as he wanted too. Ralph displays his confidence by being able to speak fluently in-front of the other boys, and gets what he needs to say out. Tough, smart, and independant are words you could use to describe Ralph. He doesnt seek validation from his peers, instead they seek validation from him. Hes also able doubt others who are not as capable as him. Ralph has leadership qualities and knows he must order the others around for certain things, otherwise they will not be completed. To quote pg 52 we need shelters in case it rains which proves he has his priorities set and knows what he must do. He also has a natural talent in certain aspects of life such as when he got into the water he was already an experienced swimmer and appeared to belong there. The book says on pg 65 Ralph who slid into the water, of all the boys he was the most natural there. Ralph is a strong leader, he is able to communicate with the rest of the group very well to finish whatever task they need finished. He is also able to complete tasks on his own, instead of sitting back and letting everybody else do all the work. Jack on the other hand does not do his own work other than hunting. Jack didnt help build the huts even after Ralph asked him too. Leadership is the ability to lead and gather your followers to complete whatever task must be completed. Jack is a very tough, strict, and lazy leader who doesnt show professionalism when he should. Ralph is the opposite, he shows professionalism when he must, hes also tough and strict but hes not lazy. Hell tell somebody to do something and if they dont hell make sure the task is completed one way or another. Its evident that Ralph is the stronger leader in the novel.

The Battle of Fredricksburg Essay - 1177 Words
The Battle of Fredricksburg In the next pages I will explain why Fredericksburg was such a tragedy. Why it was a big morale booster for the South, but a disappointment for the North? It all started in the year 1862. General George McCellen currently controls the army of the Potomac. When it was determined that McCellen was a bad general, in December of 1862 he was replaced with General Ambrose Burnside. Within a week, Burnside decided on a campaign to the Southern capitol, Richmond. He told his plans to Lincoln and Lincoln approved, but told Burnside the only way for a win was to move quickly. Burnside split his group into three grand divisions, each with two corps. Burnsideââ¬â¢s division arrives first at Fredericksburg; when heâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Burnside had Generals Sumner and Hooker as his help. Burnside, Sumner, and Hooker were on one side of the railroad with 10 regiments and on the other side of the railroad was General Franklin with eight regiments. Burnside also had one regiment of engineers to build the pontoons to cross the river. (See Map 1) While Burnside had been waiting for two weeks he saw how the Confederates were positioned; even though the Confederates had the advantage he still believed he could win. The night before Burnside was going to start building the pontoons, he sent a message to Lincoln saying, ââ¬Å"We hope to succeed.â⬠So, on the night of Wednesday, December 10, 1862, the engineers started to build the pontoons. However, another general from the South, General Will Barkslade, was right above the area where the engineers were and whenever a soldier went to check on the progress of the pontoons, the Confederates would shoot at them. Now that everything was off schedule, Burnside knew that the Confederate general was getting ready to attack. So, Burnside ordered Brigadier General Henry to take 147 heavy caliber guns and shoot at the Confederates at Stafford Heights. The shooting lasted for an hour. During that hour, 70 solid shots were fired a minute and that firing destroyed the town of Fredericksburg instead of the Confederates. General Barksdale was still there to intercept the bridge builders and troops crossing the bridges. Business Strategy of Aurecon Porter-Free-Samples for Students
Question: How can Aurecon improve its stakeholder management Specifically customer needs in order to ultimately increase market share? Answer: Aurecon Singapore Aurecon Singapore has been offering its services to the high-end market. however, it is now considering ways in which it can increase its market share for its services. This section seeks to analyze Aurecon Singapore in relation to its business-level strategy, corporate level strategy and innovation while concentrating its service industry. In order to gain a bigger market share, Aurecon Singapore has to change or improve its strategies. This is achievable through an analysis of the present current market strategies and align them with the desired goal that is, to increase its market share for its services. Business level strategy The analysis is done using the porters generic strategy diagram which is as shown below: - Aurecon porters generic strategy diagram Competitive advantage Lower cost Differentiation Competitive scope Broad target Cost leadership Differentiation Narrow target Cost focus Differentiation focus Currently, Aurecon Singapores business strategy focusses on two levels of strategy for its services products. First is differentiation through high cost and high value while the second is broad market through provision of a wide range of services. Aurecon Singapore, provides a wide range of services for example advisory, design, delivery and asset management services (Schatz, 2014). All this is done through the help of their highly trained and experience staff. The two strategies have enabled Aurecon Singapore compete well in a competitive environment. Through its richness of expertise, it has been able to provide services to the high-end market through its high-value product which attracts a high cost. The excellence of Aurecon Singapore has also been achieved through engaging in a wide market range hence fetching profits from different channels (Bird, 2017). The two strategies are perfect although sometimes a very wide range of products and markets may lead to confusion. Instead of further diversifying or increasing its product range, the next best move can be to adopt another strategy which does not collide with its current one. The adopted strategy must be in line with its vision which is Innovative provides high-quality services. Having this in mind the suggestion is maintaining its differentiation strategy but now focus on lower cost. Since the organization has been concentrating on high cost previously, it can now strive to also gain the low-end market share but maintain quality on its broad market as its competitive scope (Powell et al, 2015). This can be achieved by engaging in providing its services to small projects for example homes, infrastructure, renovations et cetera. Although the profit per product is less, the market size is big. There is a rising demand for better homes in nowadays on which Aurecon Singapore can take advantage of. Corporate Level Strategy Ansoff Matrix diagram can be used to explain Aerocon Singapores corporate level strategy for its services and is as shown below. Products/ Services Existing New Markets Existing Market penetration New products And services New Cost focus Conglomerate diversification The focus here is on its existing market. Having this in mind, the analysis from the above diagram shows that it can either improve through market penetration or through innovation directed towards developing new products or services. Market penetration can be enabled by executing initiatives that lead to increasing the market share. As suggested earlier, differentiation through low cost but quality business strategy can help in enhancing the market penetration strategy. If Aurecon Singapore changes its focus from corporate markets only but focus also on individuals and low-end investors, then it is possible to increase the market share (Foreign Aff, 2015). The main advantage of the combination of the two strategies is that they do not require much research and capitalization. This is because Aurecon Singapore has been in this market for a long time and has the capitalization required hence do not require to invest more towards this. Penetrating on an existing market is much easier than penetrating in a new market. Some of the favoring conditions are that there is no need for much marketing and promotion which proves to be costly and time-consuming are less. Aurecon can also take advantage of the contacts with the existing customers. Some of the contacts which are the employees of their existing clients can provide a new market since they are already aware of the quality of Aurecon products. Since residential houses market is increasing, these clients employee may be in need of building their homes and can be easier to approach when implementing this strategy. This is because individuals do not have much money to spend although they still demand quality (Davis, 2017). The increased demand for Engineering consulting services gives confidence for this strategy. Aurecon should, therefore, be consolidating all the service and allocate resources to meet this demand. Innovation In its to increase its market share in its existing market, Aerocon Singapore needs to engage in innovation of new services. To acquire the desired outcome which is to acquire more market share, Aurecon must decide on how to implement this strategy (market penetration supported by differentiation on the low market but maintaining the high quality) effectively. This can be determined by analyzing the current organization position and design the path to achieve the desired outcome. Market analysis is of great importance in this area. SWOT analysis done shows that there is an opportunity presented by increased demand for engineering consulting services while the key threat is lack of engineering talents (Johnson, 2016). This means that we need to devise ways to increase staff output without stretching the human power a fact that calls for a technology upgrade. In todays world, innovation is at its highest in the sense that better and more efficient equipment and machinery are being made every now and then. There is also a demand for better designs and high quality which are enabled by improved technologies. For Aurecon Singapore, to be able to implement this strategy effectively, they have to take advantage of his technology-push market. This shall help in compensating for few engineers and also help them come up with better products at a low cost. The increased demand for consulting services which is a market pull calls for high output. With this knowledge Aurecon Singapore can meet the increased demand for better products whose production cost is low through innovation. When the organization has advanced technology, they can design products which are unique and push them to the market which is the market pull. The increased demand shall quicken the achievement of increased market share objective (Tomczak T., 2018). Since Aurecon Singapor es vision is Innovative provide high-quality services better equipment shall help the staff to be more creative and which shall lead to innovating for better, unique and high-quality products. Such products shall always attract client and also help improve an entitys image.
